A Diggit with Onions

I love good satire, here's one from our friends at - The Onion.

"Life In The Navy Rocks Even Harder Than The Commercial Implied"

Man, skimmers white hats really have cool jobs. All we did on Boomer subs was field day and run WSRT and SCAM drills. Then again, us bubbleheads did get some occasional background music played by some Senior Chief pickin he's teeth.

For some counter satire, recall the old Saturday Night Live skit "Port of Call: Bayonne, NJ". Exciting music coupled with video of sailors field daying the head. Close with a skimmer sailor standing at attention with a swab on his shoulder at sunset. The tag line: "it's not just a job, it's an adventure!"

We were, first and foremost, Janitors Mates, right?

I could never understand the logic behind the all the weekly field days at sea. After about two or three weeks out there was nothing left to really clean. Start field day in week four and you were done in 15 minutes then you had to look busy for the next 4 to 5 hours.

Thanks for pointing out the "Bayonne NJ" SNL skit, I remember it as well. It was one of the better ones back when Saturday Night Live was actually funny.
